SUMMARY:New year’s international dance festival — ICELAND
DESCRIPTION:NEW YEAR’S INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL — ICELAND - Decembe
r 27 – January 1\nThis New Year\, we invite you to Iceland for a journey
through movement\, connection and exploration. From December 27 to Januar
y 1\, we will gather at Samskara Retreat Centre to practice\, research and
share through Contact Improvisation and Contemporary Dance\, combining da
 ily intensives\, improvisation\, jams\, live music\, conversations and mom
ents of celebration.\nBeyond the studio\, the Icelandic winter becomes par
 t of the experience — its darkness\, cold\, geothermal warmth\, water\,
vast landscapes and volcanic history offering another source of inspiratio
n and inquiry. There will be time to rest\, share meals\, connect\, explor
e\, enjoy the hot pot and simply experience the place. We come together no
t only to dance\, but to discover what can emerge when our bodies\, our re
lationships and our movement meet a new territory.\nNEW YEAR’S INTERNATI
ONAL DANCE FESTIVAL — ICELAND\nContact Improvisation • Contemporary Da
 nce • Research • Sharing • Nature\nIceland | December 27 – January
  1\n OVERVIEW\nDates: December 27 2026 – January 1 2027\nLocation: SAMS
KARA\, ICELAND (1 HOUR FROM REYKJAVIK)\nTeam &amp\; Teachers: Marcela Roza
 nska\, Pep Nebot\, Maya Schwartz\, Kirill Berezovski\, Pola (our cook).\n
 Format: Intensive\, Classes\, Jams\, Ball\, Talks / (Performance).\nConten
t: Contact Improvisation • Contemporary Dance • Research • Sharing
 • Nature.\nCome and welcome the New Year through movement\, dance\, conn
ection and creative exploration — surrounded by the extraordinary landsc
apes of Iceland.\nThis is a festival for people who are curious about move
ment and interested in learning\, researching and sharing through Contact
Improvisation and Contemporary Dance. For several days\, we will create a
space where technique\, artistic research\, physical awareness\, improvisa
tion\, dialogues and community can meet.\nBut the festival is not only abo
ut what happens inside the studio.\nWe will be immersed in the Icelandic c
ountryside\, in a landscape shaped by volcanic and geothermal forces\, sur
rounded by darkness\, water\, open space and the possibility of witnessing
the Northern Lights. We want to allow this extraordinary environment to b
ecome part of the experience — an inspirational source for movement\, cr
eativity\, presence and connection with ourselves\, with each other and wi
th the natural world.\nAlongside the dance practice\, there will be time t
o rest\, enjoy nature\, share meals\, connect with others\, soak in the ho
t pot\, explore the surroundings and simply be.\nThe festival takes place
at Samskara Retreat Centre in Laugarás\, offering an intimate environment
where dance\, nature and the particular energy of Iceland can become part
of the same experience.\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\nPhysical &amp\; Environmental
Practice\nAt this festival\, we approach Contact Improvisation and Contemp
orary Dance as a physical and an exploratory practice — a way of listeni
ng through the body\, relating to others\, and discovering what movement c
an become in the present moment.\nBut this time\, the practice does not ha
ppen in a neutral place.\nWe are coming to Iceland in the middle of winter
\, to a landscape shaped by volcanic and geothermal forces\, darkness\, co
ld\, wind\, water\, vast spaces and changing light. The environment become
s another element in our research — something we can sense\, respond to
and be affected by.\nHow does a place affect our dance?\nWhat happens to o
ur movement when we encounter cold\, darkness\, warmth\, wind\, uneven gro
und\, open space or the silence of the landscape? How does geothermal heat
change our relationship with the body? How does the scale of the landscap
e affect our perception\, our attention\, our sense of distance and connec
tion?\nAnd perhaps\, beyond asking how the environment affects us\, we can
ask:\nWhat does it mean to be affected?\nThroughout the festival\, we wil
l leave space for these questions to emerge through practice\, improvisati
on\, conversation and direct experience. Sometimes the research may happen
in the studio\; sometimes outside\, in the landscape\, in the water\, in
the darkness\, or simply through noticing what is happening inside us.\nTh
e aim is not to find answers\, but to become more available to what the pl
ace is offering. \nFind more about this questions at the end of this webp
age.\nSpaces for Dialogue &amp\; Sharing\nThe festival is also a space for
  meeting\, sharing and reflecting together.\nAlongside classes\, workshops
and jams\, we want to create moments where experiences can be exchanged o
 penly — about dance\, Contact Improvisation\, artistic research\, embodi
ment\, nature\, relationship and whatever questions emerge during our time
together.\nWe believe that learning does not only happen through teaching
 . It happens through dancing with others\, watching\, listening\, asking q
 uestions\, sharing experiences\, resting\, walking\, eating together and b
eing part of a temporary community.\nIn this sense\, the festival is not o
nly a programme of activities\, but a space for collective exploration.\nL
earning • Research • Sharing\nWe come together to practice\, to questi
on\, to discover — and to see what becomes possible when our dance meets
a new territory.\nJoin us for this journey between earth and air\, ground
ing and flight\, body and idea.\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\n01. THE PROGRAM \n&lt\
; from environment to movement &gt\;\n Program Highlights\n01 / DAILY PRA
CTICE\nDaily Contact Improvisation and contemporary dance intensives\, lab
oratories and research sessions — with time to develop both physical ski
 lls and personal movement research.\n02 / JAMS &amp\; IMPROVISATION\nRegul
ar Contact Improvisation jams\, including sessions with live music\, creat
ing space to integrate\, explore and share through movement.\n03 / RESEARC
 H &amp\; SHARING\nOpen spaces for reflection\, conversation and exchange a
round dance\, embodiment\, improvisation and our relationship with others
 and the environment.\n04 / NATURE &amp\; COMMUNITY\nShared meals\, informa
l gatherings and time to connect — with each other and with the Icelandi
 c landscape. Between practices\, there will be space to rest\, explore\, e
xperience the geothermal waters\, go outside\, or simply be present in the
winter environment.\n05 / NEW YEAR TOGETHER\nA special moment to pause\,
reflect and welcome the New Year through movement\, connection\, celebrati
on and shared experience.\n&nbsp\;\nThe festival begins with an opening ga
thering on December 27 and continues with a combination of morning intensi
ves\, evening intensives\, Contact Improvisation jams\, free time and shar
ed meals.\nThe rhythm is intentionally spacious.\nThere will be time for c
oncentrated work as well as time to rest\, integrate and enjoy Iceland.\nT
he programme may be adjusted slightly according to the needs of the group
and the possibilities offered by the place.\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\n02. FESTIVA
 L PHILOSOPHY\nLearning • Research • Sharing • Connecting\nAt the hea
rt of the festival is the desire to learn\, investigate and share.\nWe see
Contact Improvisation and Contemporary Dance not only as techniques\, but
as practices through which we can explore perception\, physicality\, crea
tivity\, relationship and presence.\nThe programme is designed to offer sp
ace for both structured learning and open research. Morning and evening in
tensives will provide tools\, practices and questions to work with\, while
Contact Improvisation jams will allow participants to integrate\, transfo
rm and explore what they have discovered through their own movement.\nOur
approach is open and curious. We are interested in the meeting point betwe
en technique and improvisation\, between individual research and collectiv
e experience\, between knowing and not knowing.\nWe want to cultivate an e
nvironment where participants can develop their physical and artistic prac
tice while remaining attentive to what is happening in the present moment.
\nThe festival is open to people with different levels of experience. The
intention is not to create a single way of dancing\, but to offer tools\,
questions and situations in which each participant can deepen their own pr
actice.\nThere is no need to arrive with a particular style or level of ex
pertise. Come with curiosity.\nThe place as part of the practice\nThere is
another dimension that we consider essential to this festival: where we a
re.\nIceland is a land in which geological forces are unusually visible. F
ire\, ice\, water and geothermal heat coexist in a constantly changing lan
dscape. The area around Laugarás itself is shaped by geothermal activity\
, with hot water emerging from beneath the ground and sustaining the green
houses and farms of the region.\nWe would like to approach this not simply
as something beautiful to look at\, but as an invitation to sense\, perce
ive and be inspired by our surroundings.\nHow does the body respond when i
t is surrounded by vast open landscapes?\nWhat happens to our attention wh
en there is less noise and less distraction?\nCan the darkness of an Icela
ndic winter night invite another quality of listening?\nCan the warmth of
geothermal water remind us of the relationship between the body and the ea
rth?\nCan the changing landscape become an inspiration for movement\, comp
osition and imagination?\nThese are not questions that need to be answered
intellectually. They can simply become part of the experience.\nAnd perha
ps\, on a clear night\, the sky itself will offer another kind of dance.\n
The Northern Lights are naturally occurring and cannot be guaranteed\, but
December is well within Iceland's aurora season\, when long\, dark nights
create opportunities to see them if the skies and solar conditions cooper
ate.\nWe want to leave space for these moments — for the unexpected\, th
e elemental and the magical.\nTo dance is also to become more available to
what is around us.\n&nbsp\;\n03. THE TEAM\nMarcela Rozanska\nMarcela Roza
nska is an amateur dancer focused on Contemporary practices and co-organiz
er and facilitator of the festival\, sharing with Pep a deep passion for d
ance\, beauty and art.\nHer relationship with Iceland brings another impor
tant dimension to the festival. Being connected to the country and its lan
dscape\, Marcela contributes to creating an experience that is not simply
a dance event transported to Iceland\, but a gathering that is rooted in t
he particular character of the place.\nHer role in the festival is also ab
out creating the conditions for a meaningful experience beyond the dance s
tudio: bringing people together\, taking care of the atmosphere of the gat
hering and contributing to a space where artistic practice\, human connect
ion\, nature and enjoyment can coexist.\nTogether\, Pep and Marcela want t
o create a festival that feels less like a conventional dance course and m
ore like a shared temporary community dedicated to movement\, discovery\,
connection and celebration.\nA place where we can learn from each other\,
be inspired by our surroundings and enter the New Year with a renewed sens
 e of presence.\nPep Nebot\nCo-organizer of the festival\, Pep Nebot is a d
ancer\, teacher\, choreographer and producer based in Barcelona. His dance
journey began with Contact Improvisation\, which has remained a central f
oundation of his artistic and teaching practice. His movement research bri
ngs together Contact Improvisation\, contemporary dance\, floorwork and ac
robatics and Butoh.\nFor many years Pep has been teaching Contact Improvis
ation through classes\, workshops and intensives\, and organising dance in
tensives\, festivals and jams\, and is co-founder of the Contact Improvisa
tion International Festival EN PROVENCE in France (16 editions). Performed
in 2025 with the piece "How to make a dance piece".\nPep approaches dance
as a practice of physical research\, curiosity and presence. His teaching
  explores truly falling\, gravity\, momentum\, weight sharing\, silence an
d physical listening\, inviting dancers to challenge their limits with awa
reness and safety. He is interested in the space between technique and cre
ativity\, action and observation\, grounding and flying — encouraging da
ncers to become surprised by what emerges rather than always knowing what
will happen next.\nBefore dedicating himself to dance\, Pep worked as a la
wyer\, consultant and entrepreneur and practiced rock climbing and boulder
ing for around twenty years. These experiences continue to inform his rela
tionship with physicality\, risk\, exploration and movement. Finding your
own curiosity is the key.\nMore about Pep: www.pepnebot.com\n&nbsp\;\nMaya
Schwartz\nMaya Schwartz is a dancer\, choreographer and teacher of Releas
e Technique\, Contact Improvisation and Yoga. She is also a certified Ilan
Lev Method therapist and co-founder\, with Asaf Bacharach\, of Larretude\
, a horizontal study group for dance improvisation. Her artistic practice
includes performance\, choreography and movement research\, with a strong
interest in improvisation\, presence and the relationship between the body
and its environment. She is also the creator of Deep Into You\, an ongoin
g series of retreats combining art\, movement and nature.\nHer choreograph
ic work explores themes such as presence\, impermanence\, identity\, gravi
ty\, resistance and the relationship between inner experience and the outs
ide world. Her work includes both solo and collaborative projects\, as wel
l as dance films and site-responsive research.\nFor the Iceland festival\,
Maya brings a perspective that connects movement research\, improvisation
\, embodiment and artistic creation\, contributing to the festival's broad
er exploration of how we inhabit our bodies\, relate to others and respond
to the world around us.\n More about Maya: https://www.mayartz.com/\n\n
Kirill Berezovski\n(picture by @rogavaphoto)\nKirill Berezovski is a dance
r\, choreographer\, rehearsal director and teacher whose practice is shape
d by a diverse background in contemporary dance\, floorwork and urban move
ment.\nHis professional experience includes training and working with\, am
ong others\, Kibbutz Dance Company\, Ailey School\, Anne Surrendonk\, Ella
Rothchild and Emanuel Gat\, as well as collaborations and performances wi
th artists and companies including Yasmeen Godder\, Go Plastic Company\, E
dan Gorlicki / InterActions\, Max Levy and the Company of Theatre Rostock.
\nHis movement practice brings together different dance languages into a n
atural and organic physicality\, with a strong interest in flow\, musicali
ty\, dynamics\, inner strength and availability. Recently relocated to Ice
land\, Kirill is excited to continue sharing his passion for dance and mov
ement\, and to meet and exchange with the local and international dance co
mmunity.\n&nbsp\;\nPola\, our COOK\nPola will be taking care of the food
throughout the festival\, preparing delicious and nourishing vegetarian me
als for the group.\nMore information about Pola and her culinary approach
will be announced soon.\n&nbsp\;\nMUSICIANS\nTo be announced soon\nLive mu
sic and sound will be part of the festival atmosphere and the Contact Impr
ovisation jams.\nMore information about the musicians will be announced so
 on.\n&nbsp\;\n04. THE WORKSHOPS\nMAYA SCHWARTZ — LONG DANCE INTENSIVE\n1
 2 hours • 4 sessions • 4 approaches to movement\nAcross four three-hou
r sessions\, Maya Schwartz will lead a long-form dance intensive moving be
tween different approaches to contemporary dance and improvisation. The se
ssions will explore how we respond when the expected path disappears: how
we fall\, redirect\, adapt\, make decisions\, listen to the body and find
unexpected solutions.\nRather than working towards a fixed movement vocabu
lary\, the intensive invites participants to practice attention\, responsi
veness and curiosity. We will work through solo movement\, Contact Improvi
sation\, floorwork\, duets\, trios and group awareness\, exploring the rel
ationship between instinct and choice\, technique and spontaneity\, contro
l and surrender. Each session will offer a different entry point into the
practice while contributing to a larger research into how we move\, percei
 ve and respond.\nSESSION 01 — CONTACT IMPROVISATION\nWeight • Instinct
  • Response\n&nbsp\;\nCredit: body#1” by Roni Chadash performed with
Ido Barak\, Photo credit: (Masdansa festival)\nWe begin through Contact Im
provisation\, exploring our ability to respond and make decisions within a
constantly changing dance. Working with weight\, momentum and physical co
nnection\, we will observe our instincts and stretch the quickness of our
responses.\nThrough duets\, trios and group awareness\, we will practice l
etting go of expectations about what a dance should be and develop trust i
 n what is actually happening.\nSESSION 02 — SOLO CONTEMPORARY &amp\; FLO
 ORWORK\nFalling • Ground • Momentum\nStarting close to the floor\, we
will explore falling\, landing\, redirecting momentum and continuing to mo
ve through interruptions.\nWhat happens when the expected path disappears?
Instead of freezing\, withdrawing or assuming that something has gone wro
ng\, we will practice finding another possibility. The floor becomes a con
stant partner\, offering support and information as we explore the intelli
gence of falling and the body's ability to regenerate movement.\n&nbsp\;\n

 : (Masdansa festival)\nSESSION 03 — PERFORMATIVE PRACTICE\nPresence •
Observation • Decision\n&nbsp\;\nThe research moves towards performance:
how do we remain present when we are being seen? How does observation cha
nge our movement? How can we make choices without losing spontaneity?\nWe
will explore the relationship between performing and observing\, working w
ith attention\, space\, images and physical presence. The aim is not to cr
eate predetermined material\, but to develop the ability to stay available
\, make decisions and allow unexpected things to become part of the dance.
 \nSESSION 04 — INTEGRATION &amp\; COLLECTIVE RESEARCH\nConnection • Co
mposition • Unbelievable Solutions\nThe final session brings together el
ements from the previous practices through solo\, duet and group work. We
will explore how individual choices affect the larger dance and how awaren
ess of others can expand our own possibilities.\nWe will continue to quest
ion expectations and look for “unbelievable solutions” — responses t
hat may not have been planned\, but become possible when we trust our bodi
es\, our instincts and the information available in the moment.\nAcross th
e four sessions\, we will practice falling without abandoning possibility\
, responding without rushing to decide\, and allowing movement to surprise
us.\n&nbsp\;\nPEP NEBOT CLASS - LOSING CONTROL\nWhat happens when we sto
p trying to control every movement? What becomes possible when we consciou
sly allow ourselves to fall\, fly\, listen\, and respond instead of antici
pating and directing?\nThis workshop explores the art of losing control co
 nsciously—not as recklessness\, but as a practice of trust\, awareness\,
and presence. Through the principles of Contact Improvisation\, we will i
nvestigate how giving genuine weight\, receiving another body with sensiti
vity\, and allowing momentum to guide us can awaken our natural reflexes a
nd expand our movement possibilities.\n&nbsp\;\nRather than relying on hab
itual patterns or constant mental planning\, we will cultivate the ability
to not do: to empty the mind\, soften unnecessary effort\, and let moveme
nt emerge from listening. In this state\, the body's intelligence comes fo
rward\, allowing spontaneous decisions to arise with clarity and precision
.\nFear often appears where control begins to dissolve. Together\, we will
approach this edge with curiosity\, gradually transforming the fear of fa
lling\, being supported\, or becoming unpredictable into confidence\, adap
tability\, and even pleasure. Flying\, falling\, rolling\, and sharing wei
ght become opportunities to experience freedom—not through the absence o
 f awareness\, but through a deeper form of it.\nThroughout the workshop\,
safety is the foundation. We will develop clear physical principles for su
pporting one another\, managing weight responsibly\, protecting ourselves
and our partners\, and recognizing our own limits. Conscious risk-taking i
s only possible when built upon attentive listening\, mutual care\, and re
spect.\nThis workshop is an invitation to discover that losing control is
not the opposite of awareness. It is a refined practice of surrendering un
necessary control so that responsiveness\, trust\, creativity\, and joy ca
 n emerge.\n&nbsp\;\n \nKIRILL BEREZOVKI CLASS: MOLECULAR FLOW\nContempora
 ry Dance • Urban Movement • Floorwork • Improvisation\n&nbsp\;\nMole
cular Flow begins with a dynamic warm-up designed to awaken different qual
ities of movement\, drawing from both contemporary and urban dance. We wil
 l work with flow\, shifting movement qualities\, floorwork\, improvisation
\, musicality\, and inner and outer awareness\, preparing the body to beco
me more responsive and available.\nMovement phrases will then be introduce
d\, with particular attention to space\, rhythm\, dynamics and transitions
between different states of movement. Kirill’s diverse dance background
creates a unique fusion of movement languages\, where contemporary and ur
ban influences meet in a physical\, natural and organic way.\nThroughout t
he class\, we will explore the relationship between inner impulse and oute
r expression\, between control and release\, strength and softness\, struc
ture and freedom. The practice invites dancers to develop their own physic
ality while staying connected to rhythm\, space and the changing possibili
ties of the body.\nA dynamic and physically engaging class for exploring f
 low\, presence\, musicality and movement availability.\n&nbsp\;\n05. THE V
 ENUE — SAMSKARA\, ICELAND\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\nThe festival will
take place at Samskara Retreat Centre\, in the small village of Laugarás
in southern Iceland\, approximately one hour and twenty minutes from Reykj
avík by car.\nSamskara is situated in an area known for its geothermal ac
tivity. The village of Laugarás developed around a geothermal hot spring
area whose abundant hot water is used by the many vegetable farms and gree
nhouses in the region. Samskara itself grew from an old vegetable farm int
o a place dedicated to healing\, self-reflection\, discovery and creativit
y.\nFor us\, this makes Samskara much more than a practical location for a
dance festival.\nThe place is part of the festival.\n&nbsp\;\nThe main pr
actice space is a beautiful old greenhouse\, creating an unusual and intim
ate environment for dance and movement. The changing Icelandic light and t
he surrounding landscape become part of the atmosphere in which we practis
e\, research and create.\nThe centre also offers cosy communal spaces wher
e we can eat\, talk\, rest and spend time together outside the workshops.\
nAnd then there is the water.\nWarmth\, water and the Icelandic night\nSam
skara has its own hot pot\, offering a wonderful place to relax after danc
ing\, meet other participants and let the body recover.\nNearby\, there is
also a river with warm geothermal spots where\, depending on conditions a
nd with appropriate care\, we can experience the particular pleasure of ba
thing outdoors in the Icelandic landscape.\nImagine finishing a day of dan
cing\, stepping outside into the cold Icelandic night and entering warm wa
ter.\nPerhaps the sky is clear.\nPerhaps the stars are visible.\nAnd perha
ps\, if nature decides to offer us the gift\, the Northern Lights appear a
bove us.\nThese moments are not something we can programme or guarantee. T
hey are part of the openness of the experience.\nA landscape to experience
\nOutside the scheduled activities\, participants will have time to slow d
own and experience the surroundings: walk\, explore the Icelandic countrys
 ide\, enjoy the geothermal landscape\, rest\, read\, talk\, soak in the ho
t pot or simply look out at the extraordinary scenery.\nWe want to encoura
ge participants to experience Iceland not only as visitors\, but through t
heir bodies and senses.\nTo feel the temperature.\nTo listen to the wind.\
nTo notice the changing light.\nTo walk through the landscape.\nTo feel th
e contrast between cold air and geothermal warmth.\nTo look at the sky.\nT
o become aware of the ground beneath the feet.\nPerhaps these experiences
will influence the way we dance.\nPerhaps they will influence what we crea
te.\nPerhaps they will simply give us a little more space to be present.\n
The idea is to let the place itself become part of the festival.\nA place
to celebrate the transition into a new year.\n&nbsp\;\n06. FOOD BY POLA\nD
elicious\, nutritious and vegetarian\nFood is an important part of the fes
tival experience.\nThroughout the festival\, we will share delicious and n
utritious vegetarian food\, prepared to support the physical demands of da
ncing while also making meals an enjoyable moment of the day.\nMeals will
be a time to slow down\, replenish\, talk and connect.\nWe believe that a
festival is not only made of workshops and jams. It is also made of the mo
 ments between them — sitting around a table\, sharing a meal\, laughing\
, having a conversation or simply enjoying being together.\nFood is anothe
r way of taking care of the body.\nAnd another way of sharing.\n&nbsp\;\n0
 7. HOW TO GET THERE\nGetting to Iceland\nIceland is well connected with Eu
rope and North America\, and depending on where you are travelling from th
ere are different possibilities and low-cost routes.\nParticipants travell
ing from Europe can look for connections through different European hubs\,
including Poland with Wizz Air\, the United Kingdom with easyJet\, or Fra
nce with Transavia\, among other possibilities.\nFor participants travelli
ng from North America\, Icelandair offers connections between Iceland and
several destinations in the USA.\nFlight availability and prices change fr
equently\, so we recommend checking the options from your departure city a
s early as possible.\nFrom Reykjavík to Samskara\nSamskara Retreat Centre
is located in Laugarás\, in southern Iceland\, around one hour and twent
y minutes by car from Reykjavík.\nThere are public transport possibilitie
s from Reykjavík\, normally involving a bus connection and a change in Se
lfoss.\nFor participants who prefer a simpler option\, we will coordinate
shared transfers from Reykjavík whenever possible. Depending on availabil
 ity\, we can arrange a car drop-off for a symbolic contribution\, especial
ly when several participants arrive around the same time.\nOnce the group
of participants is confirmed\, we will help coordinate arrivals and shared
transportation.\nOur aim is to make travelling to the festival as simple
 as possible.\n&nbsp\;\n08. PRICES &amp\; REGISTRATION\nFULL FESTIVAL\nEARL

Pep Nebot &amp\; Marcela Rozanska\n \n11. AN OPEN QUESTION FOR OUR RESEAR
CH\nHow does a place affect our dance?\nDuring the festival\, we would lik
 e to keep an open question alive:\nHow does a landscape\, a territory\, a
season\, affect our dance?\nWe are coming together in a very particular pl
ace and at a very particular time of the year. Iceland in winter is not a
neutral background. The landscape\, the geology\, the darkness\, the cold\
, the wind\, the water\, the geothermal warmth\, the vastness and the rela
tive isolation all create a particular environment around us.\nBut what do
es it mean to be affected by a place?\nDoes the cold change the way we mov
e?\nDoes darkness change our perception of space or time?\nDoes the vastne
ss of the landscape change our sense of scale?\nDoes geothermal heat chang
e our relationship with warmth\, relaxation and the body?\nDoes the volcan
ic history of the land awaken something in our imagination?\nDoes being su
rrounded by fewer visual and social distractions change our attention?\nDo
es the rhythm of the season influence our rhythm of moving\, resting and b
eing together?\nAnd perhaps the question goes further:\nWhat is a territor
y?\nIs it only the physical ground beneath our feet?\nOr is it also temper
 ature\, light\, sound\, weather\, geological history\, vegetation\, water\
, distance\, culture\, memory and the people who inhabit it?\nAnd if our b
odies are constantly sensing these things\, can they become part of our da
nce?\nWhat does it mean to be affected?\nTo be affected does not necessari
ly mean to imitate what we see.\nWe don't need to dance like volcanoes\, m
ove like the wind or make choreography about the Northern Lights.\nPerhaps
being affected happens somewhere more subtle.\nMaybe the cold changes the
quality of our attention.\nMaybe darkness makes us listen differently.\nM
aybe the open landscape changes the way we use space.\nMaybe the geotherma
l warmth invites another quality of weight and surrender.\nMaybe the aware
ness of the earth beneath us changes our relationship with gravity.\nMaybe
the silence allows us to hear something that is usually hidden.\nMaybe no
thing changes at all.\nCan we notice the difference?\nWe can approach this
as a physical and artistic investigation rather than an intellectual ques
tion.\nInstead of asking “What does Iceland mean to me?”\, we might as
k:\nWhat is Iceland doing to my body?\nAnd then:\nWhat is my body doing wi
 th that experience?\nFrom environment to movement\nDuring the festival\, t
his question can enter our practice in many different ways.\nWe can explor
e how temperature affects tone and muscular organisation\, how darkness af
fects orientation\, how wind affects balance\, how uneven ground changes o
ur relationship with gravity\, or how vast spaces alter our perception of
distance.\nWe can investigate the contrast between cold and warmth\, betwe
en the outdoor landscape and the intimacy of the studio\, between the dark
ness of winter and the changing light inside the greenhouse.\nWe can pay a
ttention to the geothermal water: the warmth beneath the earth\, the exper
ience of entering hot water after dancing\, the contrast between the body
and the surrounding cold.\nWe can notice what happens when we move from th
e studio into the landscape and back again.\nAnd we can ask whether these
experiences influence our movement choices\, our attention\, our relations
hips\, our improvisations and our artistic imagination.\nThere is no expec
ted answer.\nThe research is in the noticing.\n&nbsp\;\n 12. FESTIVAL EXT
ENSION IN REYKJAVIK\nFor those who want to continue the journey a little l
onger\, we may extend our time together in Reykjavik after the official fe
stival programme.\nThis will be an informal\, self-organised continuation
of the dance experience — sharing spaces in friends’ apartments\, crea
ting jams in a studio\, cooking and eating together\, exploring the city a
nd simply spending more time together.\nThere is no fixed programme or com
mitment at this stage. We will decide together during the festival what fe
els possible and interesting for the group\, depending on who wants to sta
y\, available spaces and the energy that emerges.\nA little extra Icelandi
c time — together\, spontaneously and without too much planning.\n&nbsp\
